El cierre de las campañas electorales se hizo este domingo en medio de un Gustavo Petro (Pacto Histórico) que se encamina a convertirse, quizás, en el primer gobernante de izquierda de Colombia y que busca aplacar el miedo que levanta en un fortín de la derecha; y en un derechista Federico «Fico» Gutiérrez (Coalición Equipo por Colombia) quien declaró que su adversario (Petro) es el único que «ha atentado contra la democracia”.
Recientemente, la seguridad de Petro fue reforzada debido a la sospecha de su equipo de que querían matarlo. A una semana de la elección que podría darle el triunfo, el izquierdista de 62 años y favorito en todas las encuestas, llegó en un vehículo blindado hasta las espaldas de una tarima en un mitin en Medellín, apenas desciende, una guardia pretoriana se cierra a su alrededor.
Con una ventaja de aproximadamente 15 puntos, Petro desde Barranquilla expresó ante la multitud que «el martes tienen pensado darles un golpe a las elecciones del próximo domingo 29 de mayo».
«Tienen pensado suspender las elecciones, tienen pensado suspender los órganos que dirigen el régimen electoral en Colombia», dijo el candidato del Pacto Histórico.
Asimismo, desde un acto en Cali, Gutiérrez se manifestó ante las declaraciones de su oponente.
“Petro siempre ha atentado contra la democracia… desprecia la democracia y lo que hace es utilizar los mecanismos democráticos para hacerse elegir y una vez elegido asesinar desde adentro la democracia y eso no se lo vamos a permitir», resaltó el exalcalde.
Una foto de Petro en otro mitin, rodeado de escudos blindados por entre los cuales apenas podía asomar la cabeza, trajo al recuerdo la violencia electoral del siglo XX, cuando fueron asesinados cinco presidenciables: tres izquierdistas, uno de ellos exguerrillero como Petro, y dos liberales.
El izquierdista cree que puede ganar el 29 de mayo, aunque otras encuestas señalan que deberá disputar un balotaje el 19 de junio, para el que también es favorito.
Rumores e incertidumbre
En defensa de las alegaciones de Petro salieron miembros de su partido, como el exsenador Armando Benedetti, actual mano derecha del candidato, quien alertó que «la democracia está en riesgo».
También lo hizo el senador de izquierda Iván Cepeda quien declaró que “a pesar que dicen que la suspensión del registrador nacional no supondría la suspensión de las elecciones… de (Iván) Duque y su gobierno, como se ha probado hasta la saciedad, no espero ningún respeto por la Constitución».
Se sumó el expresidente Ernesto Samper (1994-1998) acusó a «Fico» y al uribismo que implícitamente le apoya de llegar «al límite en su saboteo de las elecciones» y se refirió a varios hechos criticables del Gobierno, para asegurar que «ahora van por el registrador para que no haya elecciones».
Pero, expertos electorales han dicho que esos rumores carecen de veracidad y la directora de la ONG Misión de Observación Electoral (MOE), Alejandra Barrios, aseguró el viernes a periodistas que es «realmente imposible» un extremo que solo podría ocurrir por motivos de fuerza mayor, como una catástrofe natural.
El ministro de Interior, Daniel Palacios, aseguró en sus redes sociales que las «afirmaciones en las que se habla de aplazamiento o suspensión de las elecciones, son absolutamente falsas» y solicitó «a candidatos y equipos no generar desinformación». En Colombia nunca se han suspendido o aplazado unas elecciones, ni siquiera en los años en que la guerrilla de las FARC controlaba grandes áreas del país y saboteaba las votaciones en algunos lugares alejados de los centros urbanos.
